Welsh + Major Architects is a design based architectural practice established in Sydney in 2004 by principals David Welsh and Chris Major. Since then the practice has grown to be involved in a wide range of innovative projects and has established a reputation for delivering responsive and engaging architecture in the public and private realm. Welsh + Major’s portfolio of work spans across public spaces and private homes, restaurants and bars, galleries and shops, workplaces, and the reinvention of historic buildings. Their work seeks an artistic resolution of programme and detail with a focus on context and landscape, memory and material. Their work has been recognised with numerous awards for design excellence, including National and NSW awards from the Australian Institute of Architects for Residential Architecture, Heritage and Small Projects. They have also been the recipients of the BDP Sustainability award, Houses and ThinkBrink awards.
