The home of YSG’s Founding Director Yasmine Ghoniem, Bait sees an eclectic coming together of vibrancy, contrast and intricately layered narratives. Exploring a sensory immersion through colour, richness and layering, YSG conjures a home inspired by travel and doused in the resolve of a life well lived.

Set within a collective of six apartments in Bondi, Bait unfurls itself as a place of refuge and retreat for its designer owner. As her own home, Yasmine sought to imagine a series of spaces that act as a natural reflection of her own style, the ethos of the studio and of her own interesting and storied life. With a childhood spent between numerous international destinations, from Australia to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, her collection and absorption of the world around her is a reflection of that open world view. It is of no surprise that her own private enclave would be dutifully expressive and richly layered with collected gems and rare finds. Through colour and tactility, the resulting home acts as a window into her own creative inspirations and a passion for curation.

Through colour and tactility, the resulting home acts as a window into her own inner workings, and to an impassioned curation.

Our homes reflect memories and are the stories of our truest selves, and Bait is no exception –  indeed  it is the ultimate example. Located within an art deco building, with the interiors reworked to reflect its owner, the home reflects Yasmine’s daily immersion in design. The apartment becomes an extension of that dedicated life, surrounded by contrast and vibrancy and her own personal items. Covering a mere 55sqm, the one-bedroom home is opened up to create visual connections between the key spaces, aligning with the contemporary lived condition and allowing an ease of movement internally.

Throughout the apartment, a calming creamy foundation sets the scene and allows each of the displayed elements to have their own space, without the need to compete. Layers of olive green, peach, salmon and turmeric are the focus and through their own earth tones create a unique connection to nature and the owner’s partial roots in the Middle East. Like the stories each item harbours, materiality has been selected to capture patina over time and to allow that expression of time to occur within the space as well.

Uniquely reflecting its owner, Bait draws together a range of diverse influences to tell stories of near and far. YSG creates a distinctively identifiable home – a place of both inspiration and escape.
