Maximising Space – Emily House by Aldini and Isaac Group
Aldini and Isaac Group imbue Emily House with character and charm by introducing light, natural materials and soft edges. Built to be a hub for social interaction and entertainment, the home delivers an atmosphere of opulence through considered design approaches and thoughtful architectural alterations.
Described as a “kinder surprise” by its owner, Emily House maximises space through the use of natural lighting, materials and internal layout. Retaining original structural features such as the cathedral ceilings, Aldini worked with builder Isaac Group to transform the previously abandoned warehouse into a liveable three-bedroom home.
Utilising a dynamic range of materials, Aldini and Isaac Group introduced organic shapes and textures to enrich the visual experience of the home. Lining the exterior façade, timber battens provide a playful connection to the surrounding landscape and the bamboo elements that are employed throughout the downstairs bathroom and kitchen island. An emphasis on natural stone has also been used throughout the home; terrazzo, granite and marble are used in the exterior courtyard flooring, kitchen counters, bathroom and living room. Chosen due its ability to be shaped, curved, cut and book matched, the natural stone uplifts the interior of Emily House and introduces a layer of opulence to the home’s resulting design.
Acting as the hub of the home, the kitchen features gentle curves in its island bench and stone countertops. Softness, which is introduced to combat the hard lines of the steel doors and pitched roof, is introduced through rounded stone and curved Venetian plaster. Furthermore, skylights, windows and bi-fold doors allow the home to become illuminated at all times of the day, enhancing the perceived size of internal spaces. The house is positioned to absorb the morning sunlight from its façade and in the late afternoon and evening sunlight drenches the back courtyard and living areas.
