Jardan Byron Bay Showroom by IF Architecture
Designed by IF Architecture, Jardan’s showroom in Byron Bay is creative, sustainable and beautiful – the perfect reflection of its locale.
“We’ve always been drawn to Byron Bay for its unique blend of creativity, sustainability and natural beauty,” says Nick Garnham, co-managing director of Jardan. “It’s a place where people value quality and thoughtful design, making it a perfect fit for Jardan.” The Australian brand’s Byron Bay showroom has been imagined by IF Architecture to reflect the locale’s distinct character.
In keeping with the coastal context, the showroom’s material palette is natural and earthy. While the walls feature a soft limestone render, structural columns are adorned with ceramic tiles and the floor is laid with travertine. “Our local-first ethos is about supporting local artisans using locally sourced materials and creating designs that resonate with the local community,” says Garnham. “In our Byron Bay showroom, this ethos is reflected in everything from the furniture we display to the materials we’ve chosen and the collaborations we’ve pursued.”
Expansive yet intimate, the showroom balances a generous built foundation with considered interior design. IF Architecture has opted for an open floor plan to enhance the grandeur of high ceilings and large windows, before tempering the effect with thoughtfully spaced furniture. The outcome is a sweeping interior that retains a sense of warmth and welcome. Soft blue, green and sand tones are explored throughout and, while referencing the coastal locale, the natural colours allow for more personality to be expressed through design.
The experience begins with a raised platform to the left of the entrance, presenting a casual lounge design. This area leads to a colourful bedding display, followed by a dining and bedroom set as well as an organised lighting gallery. Along the back wall, clean-lined timber joinery is used to display both locally made and imported homewares. “We’ve got beautiful art from local artists, pendant lighting and then, when you move further down the showroom, you’ve got other dining areas and more lounge room areas so you can really imagine what it might be like to live with Jardan in your own space,” says Garnham.
As sofas are the cornerstone of the Jardan brand, they take pride of place in the showroom. In all facets, the pieces express a quality-driven approach in harmony with nature: they utilise hardwood frames, CFC-free foams, sustainably sourced timbers and textiles marked by craftsmanship. “We travel around the world and love to visit all the textile mills and tanneries from where we source our fabric,” says Garnham. Linen comes from the oldest linen mill in Belgium, wools from New Zealand and plain textured fabrics from Italy.
Championing high-quality, original work as well as sustainability, Jardan Byron Bay is a natural extension of the brand. Through well-considered design, IF Architecture strengthens the connection between Jardan, the landscape and the values of the coastal town.
