Largs Bay Home by Elmac Homes
Serving a dual purpose as a display house and a family home, Largs Bay Home combines innovation, comfort and a considered design ethos in equal measure.
Located in a coastal suburb of Adelaide, the duplex home is nestled on a small and narrow block. A wide entry hall with a square-set ceiling greets one as they enter the home and flows straight to the main living area that houses an open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge. This area then flows out into the alfresco area, which rolls to a grassed area and an outdoor pool.
As a display home, it was very important to showcase products that homeowners like Lucas and Krystel trust. “Clipsal is one of the bigger brands we have partnered up with here and we have showcased their home automation with Clipsal Wiser Smart Home Solutions, which has been groundbreaking for us as a family to have remote access to all of our lights, security cameras and integrate it with a Google Home system,” says Lucas. “When we started this process, we had a consultation with the Clipsal design services, which was really informative for us. We thought about the fine details and it changed some of the layouts and ideas we had for the home,” says Krystel.
The integration of Clipsal throughout the home is seamless, operating with Google Home and easily accessible via smartphone. “The way our house is built, being a long skinny house with two levels, to be able to check the app as I’m walking out the door and to turn everything off is really convenient,” says Krystel. “The great thing with the Clipsal system is that there is no additional infrastructure required to run the system,” says Lucas.
Along with innovative integrations and product inclusions, the design intent for the home was for it to feel comfortable as well as showcase interiors that clients will love. “We wanted it to be neutral, so we used a calm colour palette, which speaks to both our style and to the clients coming through,” says Krystel. “We wanted to showcase different products and materials that not only we love but that our clients would love as well.”
Key features include an expansive kitchen designed to fit the whole family with a large void overhead. “Not only does it open up space between the two levels of the house, but it lets in that natural light through the kitchen and living area,” notes Krystel. Being a duplex, welcoming natural light into the home was prioritised. As such, large windows and large glass doors feature throughout. Meanwhile, curved furniture and organic features such as the island bench and the arched mirrors in the bathrooms soften the interior.
“What started as a family home has become a lot more than that, it’s exceeded our expectations,” reflects Krystel. As such, the result is a home that feels warm, inviting and is highly functional – embodying modern-day family living.
