Made in Milan
Fresh off an inspiring visit to Milan Design Week 2026, co-founders of Lowe Living Emma and Tim Lowe discuss the ideas influencing the next generation of contemporary living.
Each year, the world’s premier design fair takes place over a week in Milan, offering endless inspiration on craftsmanship, materiality and design. As founders of a design-led property development company specialising in luxury residential and commercial spaces, the experience offers Emma and Tim invaluable insight into “how design continues to evolve globally and shape the way people live”.
At Salone del Mobile, Emma observed that luxury brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermès and Loro Piana were evolving from simply presenting products to creating immersive worlds built around emotion and storytelling. This notion of connecting with a brand through an emotional experience helps shape the approach to design at Lowe Living. “People are no longer simply looking for just a home,” she says, “they’re looking for a lifestyle, a sense of identity and an emotional connection to the environments they live within.”
From Tim’s perspective, this sense of connection is all down to materiality. Travelling to the famed marble quarries of Carrara alongside David Campagnino of Signorino, he was able to gain a deeper understanding of the origins of the material firsthand. “The real value lies in understanding the craft behind the material and the impact it brings to the homes we deliver,” he says.
Lowe Living designs homes so that architecture, interiors and lifestyle feel completely aligned – and collaborating with globally recognised design partners is central to this. At the Molteni Palazzo, they met with Nic Naes, group managing director of one of their key partners Molteni&C, renowned for elegant Italian craftsmanship and bespoke pieces. “That commitment to internationally informed design thinking is ultimately what a Lowe Living home feels like to live in,” she says.
Throughout Milan Design Week, the pair were able to immerse themselves in the design process, understand where materials come from and build relationships with the people behind them. “Ultimately, it allows us to create homes with a deeper sense of authenticity and lasting value,” Tim explains. It also reinforces how Lowe Living is evolving beyond property into a more connected lifestyle brand. “It’s about creating environments and experiences that feel considered and aspirational, shaping not only how people live within their home, but most importantly, how they live beyond it,” Emma concludes.
