At the front of Queens Park House, two formal living rooms look out onto Centennial Park and, boasting coffered ceilings and replicated cornices, showcase a more refined design choice. Choosing to gut the rear of the home, Pohio Adams Architects installed the kitchen, dining and living spaces to introduce an entirely open plan living area that directly responds to the back garden. Additionally, the joinery that runs through the new living space implements an extra powder room and scullery laundry that are cleverly concealed. The private rooms have also been enhanced, from the master bedroom and luxurious proportioned ensuite bathroom to the bedrooms, bathroom and children’s play space upstairs.

After reinstating the original details of the house, Pohio Adams Architects chose black timber floors to provide a continuity between the old sections of the home and into the new areas. Simple oak joinery runs through the main living spaces to provide robustness and comfort to the living areas and aged brass is used for the detailing and hardware in the kitchens and bathrooms, providing a vital layer of warmth. Handmade Moroccan tiles are employed in the bathrooms and kitchen to emphasis the homes modern renovations and perfectly complement a full suite of Fisher & Paykel appliances. Included in the kitchen are the integrated French door fridge, cool drawer, full stack dishwasher, gas cooktop, ovens and extractor hood. Following a long-standing working relationship with Fisher & Paykel, Pohio Adams Architects has employed appliances throughout Queens Park House, directly enhancing the way the occupants live.
