It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of the home – a concept that Studio Doherty has drawn from in the creation of Scoop Kitchen in collaboration with Laminex. The bold design harnesses the multifaceted essence of the domestic space and rewrites traditional kitchen design through the use of texture, grain and form.

Specialising in interior design projects characterised by personality, lots of colour, texture and layering of materials, Studio Doherty was the ideal fit to bring Scoop Kitchen to life. In the designing of the space, the studio used laminates from Laminex in an entirely new way. Using Laminex’s AbsoluteMatte, which features a range of colours in a matte finish, Studio Doherty approached the space with bold material combinations that resulted in a courageous and dynamic performance of colour and texture.

The design concept of Scoop Kitchen was focused on one central idea: connection. This meant ensuring a cohesive textural language within the kitchen itself and with the other living spaces in the home. The day-to-day functions of the space are enriched by the chosen materials, with Laminex products providing bursts of vibrancy in unexpected areas and an overall soft tactility. The design also focused on the connection between family and friends, making sure the space feels open, inviting and engaging.

Studio Doherty created a kitchen that not only looks and feels great but is highly practical. The space has a sturdiness and durability to it that will withstand time and growing families. In addition, whilst the kitchen is made mainly using Laminex surfaces, various smart appliances elevate the functional nature of the space, as well as complementary tiling and a curved splashback.

Reworking the conceptual approach to the pantry, Studio Doherty emphasises this typically forgotten and merely functional kitchen feature. Often done in a white-toned material, the pantry is elevated to become a beautiful feature, thought of as a piece of joinery rather than just food storage. A freestanding pantry unit with a bar is clad in Laminex’s Moroccan Clay and Steel Blue, and a food storage pantry to the right stands out with the bold tones of Laminex Peacock and Steel Blue.

Scoop Kitchen sets an exciting precedent for kitchen design, encouraging a brave approach when it comes to colour, form and texture. Studio Doherty reveals how using the dynamic offerings at Laminex can significantly elevate both a kitchen and an overall home.
