Innate Elegance – Flos Launches New Designs at Milan Design Week 2023
After three years of disruptions, Milan Design Week has returned to its traditional April schedule to celebrate all things design. The festival saw international lighting design studio Flos launch a selection of contemporary products crafted by several leading designers that are available in Australia from Euroluce.
Since Flos was established in 1962 in Merano, Italy, the brand has continued to manufacture elegant and innovative lighting solutions for both residential and commercial spaces. Each design – from the more decorative projects to traditional outdoor and architectural pieces – balances functionality and form with creative resolutions. This April, Flos launched a number of new products at Milan Design Week 2023, including Bilboquet by Philippe Malouin, Céramique by Ronan Bouroullec, My Circuit by Michael Anastassiades and a special edition of the iconic Taccia.
Since Flos was established in 1962 in Merano, Italy, the brand has continued to manufacture elegant and innovative lighting solutions for both residential and commercial spaces.
Designed by Philippe Malouin as his first collaboration with Flos, Bilboquet focuses on natural gestures to create a poetic balance of shape, colour and material. “Simple in appearance but full of personality, Bilboquet is an adjustable table lamp that allows you to direct light in a playful yet precise manner,” explains Philippe. “Whether used as a task light on a desk, or to provide a soft glow against a wall, or directed at a good book, Bilboquet shines light where it is needed.” Comprising of two cylinders connected by a magnetic sphere, the lamp is inspired by the16th-century French game after which it is named and is available in three colours; sage, tomato and linen.
Céramique by Ronan Bouroullec is composed of a series of lamps that emphasise craftsmanship, material and form. The three table elements are fashioned with a ceramic body and diffuser and feature a lead-free crystalline lacquer, which highlights the expressive handcrafted surface. Available in moss green, navy blue and rust red, Céramique is distinguished by its ability for everchanging configurations; focusing the light down creates a more concentrated light, whereas a horizontal angle allows for more ambient lighting.
Creating welcoming ambience, Flos’s latest designs encompass both contemporary aesthetics and design classics.
Designed by Michael Anastassiades, My Circuit is a completely flexible lighting track. Merging technology with innovative design, a patented track sits at the base of the light fixture, which can be curved and bent as needed. A selection of fixtures and decorative pendants, whether for direct or indirect light, can then be attached. My Circuit’s sophisticated versatility allows for infinite combinations and compositional liberties, whilst its white tonality can suit several interior palettes.
Originally designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Flos has launched a special edition of the coveted Taccia table lamp in matte white. Internationally recognised as an iconic symbol of Italian design, the latest version of Taccia features an elegant, all-white finish, advanced LED technology and state-of-the art moulding and laser cut-ting techniques, resulting in the piece’s distinctive bell shape.
Each design – from the more decorative projects to traditional outdoor and architectural pieces – balances functionality and form with creative resolutions.
Alongside these pieces, Flos has also released a number of new lighting designs out of Milan, including Black Flag by Konstantin Grcic, 2097White by Gino Sarfatti, Emi by Erwan Bouroullec, Skynest by Marcel Wanders and Workmates by Flos Architectural. Each piece is imbued with the brand’s signature quality and innate elegance. Creating welcoming ambience, Flos’s latest designs encompass both contemporary aesthetics and design classics.
