The Ephemeral Nature of Light – Articolo Studios’s Global Presence
Australian designer Articolo Studios draws from European design influences and explores the ephemeral nature of light through a local sensibility, adopting an authentic and playful approach to craft and materiality.
Reflecting Founder and Creative Director Nicci Kavals’s passion for the character and intricacies of light, the lighting studio has created designs that have adorned some of the world’s best interiors. With a continued commitment to working with the finest local and global artisans, Articolo Studios produces works that are revered for their high quality materials and modern, honest craftsmanship.
The brand’s expansion has seen it grow beyond its Melbourne showroom to recently also open a location in New York City, with a Los Angeles presence to follow. The new flagship showroom is located in the heart of New York’s Flatiron District, opposite Madison Square Park. This newly established North American home is a significantly large atelier, commissioned and architecturally designed by Articolo Studios’s long-term collaborator Studio Goss. Sited within a grand heritage space on Broadway with voluminous ceilings and windows, one of the most striking features of the existing space is the grand circular columns. In response, Studio Goss created a series of freestanding walls designed to celebrate the adjacent round columns and highlight the height of the space. These curved block walls read as abstract sculptural elements that create a series of vignettes and distinctive moments, and highlight key pieces of the collection as you walk through the showroom. “Our new showroom is an incredible space where our signature interior and exterior collections are displayed, including several arresting custom Articolo designs of significant proportions created for these expansive spaces, with dramatic effect,” says Nicci.
This new step that sees Articolo Studios expand beyond the shores of Australia is an inspiring reflection of its growth and global renown.
