Melbourne-based engineered-timber flooring supplier Made by Block is a steadfast and dependable player among the contemporary design landscape. Launched in 2019 as a sibling of Made by Storey, it has established itself as a well-rounded company imbued with an appreciation for eminence and an enduring passion for design.

As Co-Founder Damir Dzuzdanovic explains, Made by Block was created in response to a growing demand for high quality timber flooring at a level price point and, as such, it’s the perfect complement to established bedfellow, Made by Storey. “We found there was a gap in the market between the low engineered products and ultra-premium pieces – like what we offer at Made by Storey – but there was no one that sat in the middle with a great product that was well engineered and well branded.”

Though Made by Storey and Made by Block cater to different areas of the market (the former is favoured by clients in the private residential sector, whereas the latter lends itself well to larger, commercial projects), they are underpinned by the same philosophy. “The approach taken with Storey is no different to the approach taken with Block,” Damir explains.

He adds, “we take pride in the product – from sourcing, branding and colouring, to making sure it meets Australian requirements, is fit for purpose and is made to the highest standards. I’m also still involved in designing all the colours – it’s something I’m personally very proud of and put a lot of effort into.”

Pleasingly, Made by Block hits all the right notes in its pursuit for an honest and hard-working product. Its range of timber floorboards and wall panelling is made from premium European oak, harvested from Central and Eastern European forests only, and the superior construction – which includes a four-side tongue and groove system with micro-bevelled edges – ensures durability.
