Colour Collection 2027
From the ochre landscapes of the Red Centre to the timeless beauty of native timber, Laminex’s Colour Collection 2027 draws inspiration from the Australian landscape in 10 new decors.
Laminex’s new Colour Collection 2027 was launched in August in The Seidler Room at The International in Sydney, where leading members of the country’s architecture and design community gathered for an intimate seated dinner. Amanda Watt, the company’s head of marketing and digital, introduced the range, with visualisations showcasing the new palette in virtual interiors designed by Melbourne architect Zac Bunston of BUNSTON.
The evening was as thoughtful as the collection itself. On colourful place settings that showcased the new hues, guests enjoyed tuna crudo, beef tartare and chestnut mushrooms to begin, followed by John Dory, dry-aged sirloin, Roman beans and Paris mash, accompanied by a choice of three exceptional local wines and a French chablis. Russian honey cake provided a suitably indulgent finale.
But the real conversation was colour. “For generations, Laminex has played an important role in shaping Australian interiors, continually evolving our collections to reflect the way we live and the environments that inspire us,” Watt says. At the centre of the new collection are six solid hues, each drawing from the earthy tones and textures of the landscape, and four Australian Native Woodgrains.
The solid hues include High Country, a soft, muted white with gentle greige undertones, inspired by freshly fallen snow across Victoria’s alpine region. Scribbly Gum brings a warm greige with an almost-there green undertone, echoing the smooth, weathered bark of its namesake tree.
For deeper drama, Red Centre is a richly pigmented red-brown drawn from Australia’s central deserts, while Desert Dune offers a warm, nuanced beige reminiscent of ever-shifting inland sands. Nullarbor Drift captures the sun-drenched character of coastal plains in a warm, pink-toned brown, and Sunbaked rounds out the palette with an earthy mid-brown inspired by outback soil.
Complementing these colours are the woodgrains, extending Laminex’s Next Generation collection. Using AbsoluteGrain finish and TrueScale technology for authentic no-repeat designs, these surfaces deliver the visual richness of timber veneer alongside the durability and performance expected from Laminex.
Raw Bluegum TrueScale presents the southern blue gum in an elegant raw-veneer colouration, with subtle grain movement and natural variation. Calm Bluegum TrueScale offers a warmer mid-tone interpretation, balancing clean linear grain with authentic texture. Smoked Bluegum TrueScale takes the timber deeper, with a dark smoked colour, expressive grain and rich tonal variation. The lightest of the four, Raw Spotted Gum TrueScale, features a paler red tone, soft yellow highlights and the characteristic crown-cut grain of Queensland spotted gum.
Equally important is the way the palette works together. “The most enduring interiors aren’t built around a single hero colour or material. They’re created through palettes that work together effortlessly,” Watt explains. “Colour Collection 2027 was designed with exactly that in mind – giving designers, makers and homeowners the confidence to create spaces that feel considered today while remaining timeless for years to come.”
