Over the past few years there has been a surge of little bars popping up all over Adelaide. Some of the most popular places are those where you can go for a good drink, good food and listen to some great music while still being able to have a chat and hear the person next to you.

For those who of us who prefer the idea of sitting down and sipping an espresso martini while chatting with friends, Bank Street Social ticks all the boxes. Located in the busy hub of Adelaide city and in close proximity to some of Adelaide’s best food, art and theater, Bank Street Social is a great place to go for after work drinks or for a relaxed night out with friends.

Open for the last two and half years, this place is no stranger to the people living and working in the Adelaide CBD, but for those who don’t, it can be easily missed. Its entrance is a dark timber door located on Bank Street between Cibos and Zambreros with the brass letters ‘BSS’ on the front creating an immediate sense of secrecy and exclusivity about the bar.

The sense of intrigue continues once walking through the doors as you are led down a short flight of stairs taking you further underground and finally opening up into a very impressive and large lounge and bar. The industrial style interior shows off exposed piping, brick walls and timber counter tops and beams, together with warm moody lighting and cosy spaces for small groups and couples. It’s hard not to feel like you’ve just stepped back into the prohibition era of secrecy and underground bars.
