For a new kitchen in their home in a small coastal enclave just north of Wollongong, a professional couple had a strong sense of what they wanted Concepts by Gavin Hepper to create: a space that was reminiscent of a European bistro, with elevated furniture-like elements and, as they were uncertain about whether this was their ‘forever home’, a distinct sense of timelessness. They also wanted to keep the large dining table but to include casual dining areas as well.

Hepper opted for a natural material palette of teak, natural stone and raw brass to create the elegant space, and fulfilled the casual dining brief by including stools at the island bench but also adding a refined drop-down space at its end. An exquisite wall of glass-fronted cabinetry sits in a previously unused area of the kitchen. “I think it generates a refined cafe feel to the overall space,” he says.

To elevate the teak cabinetry, the designer turned to Momo’s Belgravia range of handles in dark brushed brass.

To elevate the teak cabinetry, the designer turned to Momo’s Belgravia range of handles in dark brushed brass. “It’s a very refined handle that really lends itself to the furniture element we were going for,” says Hepper. “It has a very appealing weight and texture, it’s very classic and timeless, and the knurled finish is absolutely gorgeous to the hand. I also really love the ‘knuckle’ finish that holds the handle to the door or drawer.”

The versatile range – which is available in T knobs, appliance pulls, bar pulls and round knobs – sits beautifully within the material selection and “feels like it really belongs. That’s very important in a design like this, which is very furniture-like, very calm and very considered. Its metallic colouring also informed other fittings and tapware that beautifully complement the handles.”

“Most designs nowadays are integrating appliances and the fact that Momo has taken that on board is really fantastic.”

To create contrast, Hepper used Bellevue handles for the appliance pulls and acknowledges that Momo’s range of appliance pulls is a very welcome addition to their inventory. “Most designs nowadays are integrating appliances and the fact that Momo has taken that on board is really fantastic.”

Designed and crafted to exacting standards, both the Belgravia and Bellevue ranges are solid brass and are available in five signature finishes – matt black, bronze, dull brushed nickel, brushed satin brass and dark brushed brass – as well as varying lengths to suit any aesthetic.
