Casa Halcyon
Elton Group’s Eveneer ALPI Xilo veneers are renowned for creating warm, textured and luxury interiors, as seen in this refined Sydney residence.
Design underpins the very ethos of Elton Group. Since it was established in Melbourne in 1943, the company has pioneered cutting-edge interior architectural materials and taken a creative approach towards partnering with some of the best manufacturers around the world.
One of the most enduring of those partnerships is with ALPI Italy, which began in 1967. Created with the A&D community firmly in mind, ALPI’s innovative timber veneers are revered globally for their beauty and sustainability credentials. In collaboration with ALPI, Elton Group designed the Eveneer range specifically for the Australian market in 1989, and has consistently released new grains, patterns and colours in response to changing tastes and needs. The Eveneer ALPI Xilo range in particular has proven to have enduring appeal, grounded by a harmonious balance of craftsmanship and technique, with impeccable grain and colour. Designed by ALPI’s creative director, the renowned Italian architect and art director Piero Lissoni, Xilo features exclusive wood patterns achieved through innovative technologies, as well as original graphic detailing by Lissoni himself.
Lissoni’s work clearly resonates with designers looking to harness the natural beauty and timeless quality of timber while minimising environmental impact. One such designer is Joss Knight of Sydney interior architectural practice Studiojos, who explains that timber veneers allow the aesthetic of wood to be showcased in versatile applications while using resources more efficiently.
“Veneer gives us the ability to control the visual grain, texture and colour in ways that are both creative and sustainable,” says Knight. “It’s a material that feels both natural and sophisticated, and it’s central to many of our design projects.”

Consistency of colour and texture were key in one of Studiojos’s recent residential projects, Casa Halcyon in Vaucluse, Sydney, where layers of tonal textures were used to create a serene, tranquil oasis. Veneer features in the bespoke cabinetry and wall features, which, Knight explains, “brings texture and depth to these surfaces, enhancing the tactile experience”.
In Casa Halcyon, Eveneer ALPI Xilo Planked White veneers have been used in original and inspiring applications, including a stunning sinuous bedhead and the inviting curved recess on the 12-metre-long kitchen island. The consistency of the veneer elements throughout contributes to a cohesive feel, but the product also transcends its materiality to become an integral aspect of the design.
As Knight says, it’s all in the details. “Detailing is a way to elevate design beyond the surface level, allowing the smallest elements to speak volumes about both craftsmanship and intention.”

And when it comes to the high-quality craftsmanship needed to create authentic, high-end interiors, designers trust in the extensive research and development that is an integral component of the design-led Eveneer ranges. “Eveneer stands out to us because of its consistent quality, sustainability efforts and the diversity of finishes it offers,” says Knight.
“Elton Group’s commitment to both beauty and performance aligns perfectly with our philosophy of creating spaces that are meaningful and environmentally responsible,” he concludes.
