After 10 years, Tom Mark Henry continues to design with creativity, authenticity and a commitment to enriching spaces that connect, inspire and leave a lasting impact.

As Tom Mark Henry celebrates its 10-year milestone, the interior design studio continues to inspire the Australian design landscape with its commitment to authenticity, human connection and creative versatility. Founded in 2014 by Cushla McFadden and Jade Nottage, the studio is renowned for its thoughtful, adaptable approach to design, creating spaces with striking visuals and unexpected details. A decade on, Tom Mark Henry remains steadfast in its core values of innovation, collaboration and cultural impact.

Guided by the principle ‘Driven by connections, inspired by authenticity,’ the studio is dedicated to enriching communities through spaces that resonate, evoke and inspire.

From the beginning, McFadden and Nottage have emphasised the importance of storytelling in design. The studio’s name is a tribute to influential people in their lives who embody strength, character and ambition. What began as a small team has now grown to 12, with offices in Sydney and Brisbane, and a portfolio spanning luxury residential, hospitality, retail, hotels, commercial and wellness. Guided by the principle ‘Driven by connections, inspired by authenticity,’ the studio is dedicated to enriching communities through spaces that resonate, evoke and inspire.

Tom Mark Henry’s diverse work highlights the studio’s versatility and commitment to thoughtful, functional design. Residential projects such as West End Residence and Balfour Residence showcase a refined approach that balances luxury with liveability. In hospitality, Cucina Porto at The Star Sydney reimagines Italian dining, blending old-world charm with modern aesthetics to evoke the warmth of a friend’s home. Retail projects, including the award-winning 1888 Certified in Double Bay, honour the client’s heritage with bespoke touches that reflect traditional craftsmanship.

In the commercial sector, projects like WeWork Martin Place demonstrate the studio’s expertise in creating workplaces that foster collaboration and innovation.

In the commercial sector, projects like WeWork Martin Place and the Microsoft Technology Centre, also in Sydney’s Martin Place, demonstrate Tom Mark Henry’s expertise in creating workplaces that foster collaboration and innovation. WeWork’s first Australian site blends flexibility with the spirit of co-working while respecting the heritage of Martin Place, while the Microsoft Technology Centre embraces Sydney’s local palette, with materials inspired by Australia’s landscapes and contributions from local artists.

Hotel designs, particularly Hotel Morris, underscore the studio’s talent for crafting sophisticated yet inviting spaces. Located in an historic 1920s building in the Sydney CBD, Hotel Morris merges Italian and Australian influences, offering a richly layered experience for guests.

Recognition for Tom Mark Henry’s work has extended beyond Australia, with awards both locally and internationally, affirming the studio’s impact. “When we secured WeWork as a client back in 2016, it was a pivotal moment in the growth of TMH and the subsequent projects we got off the back of it,” says Jade Nottage. “Winning the Australian Interior Design Award for Best Retail that same year was also a huge milestone for us.”

Reflecting on the 10-year anniversary, Nottage says that the drive and motivation “to design beautiful, thoughtful, rigorous spaces hasn’t changed at all. We have always strived for a high quality of output and placed huge value on the relationships we build. However, our processes and methodologies to get there have certainly evolved over the past 10 years.”

Looking to the future, the team is excited to continue designing spaces that enrich the built environment and inspire the next generations of designers.
