A global leader in colour forecasting, Dulux has envisioned a summer where living is easy, incorporating natural, warm colours with a positive and uplifting essence. Designed to transform your home into a soothing retreat, Dulux’s 2024 Solstice Palette evokes a comforting, familiar and inviting feeling.

With a long hot summer looming, Dulux is predicting that Australians will embrace golden radiant hues at home, creating a cocoon of comfort earmarked by a sense of ease and lightness. “As the days grow longer, our colour forecasters predict that natural, golden hues – which exude a beautiful radiance – will come to the fore, evoking feelings of security and warmth,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Colour and Communications Manager.

The Solstice Palette revolves around light hues that feel fresh and energised.

The Solstice Palette revolves around light hues that feel fresh and energised. Sun- soaked, creamy-yellow hues such as Jodhpurs and Handmade Linen Half are the perfect pairing for pastel blues like Pure Blue and Ocean Surf, with deeper contrasts provided by browns and clay pinks, including Potter’s Pink and Tan Wagon. At its heart, the palette is about sparking joy. “Colour is such an easy way to help bring joy and positivity into a home,” says Andrea. “It also helps to differentiate spaces from each other and achieve a sense of meaning and purpose within each room. Even small volumes of warm colours can make your home feel more inviting this summer.”

For a living room makeover incorporating the Solstice palette, stylist and Dulux Colour Forecaster Bree Leech used Lama, a sandy hue with orange undertones, on the walls to imbue a softness and warmth, employed the clay-toned Potter’s Pink on cabinetry to offer subtle contrast and soft blues for accents. “Lama adds interest to a space without overwhelming it, making it perfect for open plan living where white might have been used in adjacent spaces,” Bree says. “Clay hues on the cabinetry and within soft furnishings make the room feel cosy. Soft blue accents highlight textures and pieces like cushions, rugs, artwork and sculptural vessels.”

“Colour is such an easy way to help bring joy and positivity into a home,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Colour and Communications Manager.

Solstice is one of three Dulux colour predictions for 2024. It joins the retro-influenced Muse, a celebration of design from the 1960s to the 1980s with a focus on deep blues and greens, rich tans and russets and orange-reds; and Journey, which embraces eclecticism and maximalism with shades like rich burgundy and plum, mid-toned blues and yellow-greens.
