Italian studio QU Lighting expands its esteemed range – available in Australia through Gineico – with a new family of luminaires inspired by surrealist Belgian artist René Magritte.

Rooted in the quiet rigour of Italian craftsmanship, QU Lighting has built its reputation on sculptural luminaires that blur the boundary between technical refinement and artistic expression. The studio’s work is defined by minimal forms, seamless materiality and a dedication to light as a spatial gesture – a philosophy that finds its fullest articulation in the brand’s newest release, the Magritte collection. Now available exclusively in Australia through Gineico, the collection expands QU Lighting’s legacy with a family of marine-grade, waterproof lighting conceived for both interior and exterior environments.

Drawing inspiration from the surrealist master René Magritte, the collection transforms illumination into a sculptural act. Each piece – from pendants to portable lamps – speaks the same language of seamless aluminium bodies and diffused, tactile light. Designed and crafted in Bologna, Magritte began as an outdoor concept and has evolved into a complete suite of pieces suitable for inside and out, their versatility reinforced by finishes such as gold, corten, bronze, copper and hand-burnished metal. Across residential and commercial projects alike, Magritte brings quiet luxury and a sense of enduring modernity.

The family unfolds through a series of considered forms. With its refined geometry, the Magritte Table anchors desks, consoles or bedside settings with soft directional light while its companion, the Magritte Table Portable, extends this intimacy with cordless flexibility. Together, they reveal QU’s intent: lighting as a discreet, elegant presence that enhances daily rituals.

Magritte Moon diffuses a soft, enveloping glow that elevates visual comfort and becomes an object of contemplation in its own right.

Where the Table expresses refinement, the Portable amplifies freedom, casting a warm, ambient glow across shelves, dining tables and alcoves. The Magritte Moon, its counterpart in sculptural serenity, interprets lunar radiance in a circular, wall-mounted disc. Concealing its light source behind a minimalist form, Magritte Moon diffuses a soft, enveloping glow that elevates visual comfort and becomes an object of contemplation in its own right.

Designed to endure Australian conditions, the exterior pieces reaffirm QU Lighting’s technical mastery. The Magritte Outdoor brings architectural poise to terraces and landscapes open to the elements, while the compact and resilient Magritte Mini extends the same sculptural precision at a smaller scale, ideal for pathways or architectural accents. Despite its diminutive form, the Mini maintains the performance, illumination and craftsmanship of the broader range, ensuring continuity across interior and exterior spaces.

On vertical planes, the Magritte Wall offers upward and downward illumination with refined control.

On vertical planes, the Magritte Wall offers upward and downward illumination with refined control, its die-cast aluminium body and proprietary PMMA optics delivering efficient, balanced and glare-free light. Overhead, the Magritte S pendant transforms asymmetry into art, its tiltable shade modulating indirect illumination with both technical precision and sculptural subtlety.

Similarly, the Magritte S – a ceiling-mounted gesture of indirect glowing light – redefines perception, illuminating what is often left in shadow. Its in-house-engineered, eight-watt light source and adaptable installation kit make it suited to varied ceiling heights. The Magritte Floor, crafted from hand-finished aluminium, extends the collection’s elegance to a freestanding form, offering warm, focused illumination for reading or atmosphere.

Unified by material integrity and emotional clarity, the Magritte collection at Gineico represents QU Lighting at its most distilled – minimal, expressive and profoundly Italian.
