There’s something about the calm rhythm of the sea that – if not in presence, then certainly in spirit – has a way of grounding us. RJ Living’s latest collection, Sunlit Forms, channels exactly this feeling: an easy, unhurried coastal energy distilled into furniture and forms that evoke stillness, sanctuary and comfort. It’s a range shaped by quiet details, relaxed silhouettes and materials meant to be lived with, inviting moments of pause in the spaces we inhabit every day.

It’s this interplay – matte against gloss, grain against weave – that gives Sunlit Forms its considered, layered character.

Materiality sets the emotional temperature of the collection. RJ Living’s signature European oak appears throughout, but with refreshed interpretations that deepen its tactility. The Weave bed stands out with its rope detailing, a subtle maritime reference that introduces a new textural rhythm to the timber frame. The Toto range offers a counterpoint with its high-gloss timber, a finish that nods to the sheen of surfboard resin. It’s this interplay – matte against gloss, grain against weave – that gives Sunlit Forms its considered, layered character.

Fabrics, too, play a central role in shaping the collection’s atmosphere. The newly introduced Marnie Stripe comes in a bouclé finish that’s equal parts approachable and refined. Colour brings another dimension of softness and depth. While the palette skews towards subdued, grounded tones, it’s punctuated with burnished reds and sun-warmed orange hues. These richer notes are intentionally mellowed so they sit harmoniously against pale oak and porcelain hues. The effect is coastal without leaning into the obvious: more like a sunset settling into the horizon than a postcard-blue seascape.

Everywhere, the references remain measured and atmospheric – more an evocation of place than a direct translation.

The ocean’s influence is embedded further in the collection’s forms. The Tide range features subtly curved drawer and door fronts, a clear nod to the repetition and rhythm of waves. Rope detailing on pieces such as Compass and Weave subtly recalls moored boats in a harbour. Even the finishes, such as Toto’s high gloss, feel like a quiet homage to the world of surf and sea spray. Everywhere, the references remain measured and atmospheric – more an evocation of place than a direct translation.

This sense of calm and approachability is perhaps most evident in the Bound bed base. Generous in scale and low to the ground, it creates an instant feeling of restfulness. Its curved legs add a gentle sculptural note, and its informal styling potential – best with bedding that’s effortlessly undone – speaks to the relaxed ease the collection champions. The Sidney sofa and the Lonnie outdoor pieces continue this theme, bridging structure with softness in forms that feel inherently welcoming.

With Sunlit Forms, RJ Living delivers a collection that captures the restorative spirit of the coast.

Among the stand-out designs is the Breeze shelving unit. Its four-level, gently curved profile lends an effortless aesthetic that works as comfortably in an entryway as it does in a living or dining space. With its blend of open and closed storage, and the calm repetition of its lines, it offers versatility without visual heaviness. Grouped in multiples, it becomes a modular system that enhances storage while maintaining a sense of airiness.

With Sunlit Forms, RJ Living delivers a collection that captures the restorative spirit of the coast – rooted in material warmth, shaped by thoughtful details and designed for the gentle, grounding beauty of everyday life.
