Lasting First Impressions – Iver by Southern Design Group

The feel of solid brass under the hand is unmistakable; it has a gravity that is more than just its weight. Embracing this quality, the Iver range of solid-forged brass door furniture from Southern Design Group is designed to ensure the first touchpoint on entering a building leaves a solid and long-lasting first impression.

The longevity of solid brass is key to its appeal. Naturally rust-proof, with the right care brass will last decades. With use, brass even develops character, its colour deepening and edges softening with each touch. “Brass will patina beautifully over time and develops unique depths of colour, whilst our plating and powder-coating techniques provide finishes with unrivalled endurance and quality,” says Emily Bradley, Southern Design Group Co-CEO. “Better still, all SDG [Southern Design Group] products carry a 10-year mechanical warranty.”

The Iver range includes a selection of pull handles, sliding door pulls, doorknobs, cabinet ware and accessories plus knockers, all crafted from solid-forged brass. Each piece offers a selection of up to 10 finishes, including brushed brass, signature brass, brushed chrome and matt black plating. Fashion changes, but the Iver range promises to be timeless and is designed to complement any style, from classic to contemporary. “Iver adds essential accents to every space,” Emily says. “Whether requirements are for complete harmony or a touch of contrast to add drama, our designs offer sleek and striking silhouettes with a dynamic, minimalist edge through to expressive styles with subtle curved, clean lines.”

Both the design and the rigorous R&D of all Southern Design Group pieces takes place in Australia. All Iver door levers are tested to 500,000 turns, achieving a D8 rating in accordance with the Australian Standard, the highest benchmark in the industry, and all Iver door levers, knobs and pull handles are fire tested to two hours. This Australian focus continues all the way down the supply chain, as Emily describes: “What makes Iver truly desirable is the fact that every piece in each range is fully stocked in Australia, enabling a speedy delivery of around two to four working days within Australia compared to the current two to eight weeks wait times for international orders.”

Southern Design Group is a family business founded in Adelaide in 1982, inspired to design aspirational yet accessible door handles for Australia and New Zealand. Now co-run by Emily and Steve Bradley, SDG has spent its nearly 40 years leading the industry in social responsibility, providing employment for refugees and winning the Australian NESA award for Innovation in Disability Employment. Emily and Steve are also committed to eliminating plastic from all packaging, employing a fulltime in-house packaging designer to ensure 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025.
