Louis Poulsen
Lucian Architectural Lighting is now the exclusive commercial distributor for Louis Poulsen across four Australian states, bringing one of Denmark’s most-loved lighting names within reach of architects, designers and specifiers nationwide.
It’s a genuinely exciting pairing: more than a century of Danish design heritage meeting Australian architectural lighting know-how. Lucian has been appointed the exclusive commercial distributor for Louis Poulsen in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia. Louis Poulsen chose Lucian for its experience delivering considered lighting outcomes on complex architectural projects, so Australian clients get expert advice, real technical support and access to the full collection combined with faster turnaround and shorter lead times on the Louis Poulsen range.
Founded in Denmark in 1874, Louis Poulsen has spent more than 150 years refining a singular philosophy: that light itself is the focus of design. Rather than simply creating objects that illuminate, the brand’s pioneering approach focuses on atmosphere, comfort and revealing the character of architectural spaces.
Since 2020, Lucian has set out to be a lighting distributor that truly understands design, moves quickly, and treats relationships like they matter, all while offering a deliberately curated portfolio of brands it genuinely believes in. The partnership with Louis Poulsen reflects that.
“Forging this relationship with Lucian marks a significant step in our commitment to the Australian market,” says Zorayda Perez Pedersen, Louis Poulsen’s chief marketing officer. “The company’s deep understanding of premium project execution, combined with an appreciation for design narrative, makes it the perfect partner. Together, we’ll ensure that the design community has unparalleled access to lighting solutions that masterfully blend technical performance with artistic expression.”
For Lucian’s head of marketing, Laurie Giraudeau, the partnership is about more than distribution, it’s a shared belief in what light can do for a space. “Louis Poulsen isn’t just a lighting brand, it’s a cultural institution with a century of Danish design philosophy behind it,” she says. “Guided by the belief that form follows function, every luminaire is conceived to shape light in a way that enhances human experience. We’re honoured to represent such an iconic brand. The relationship not only gives our clients a truly complete lighting offering: we are also able to provide technical expertise and support – with a fast turnaround.”
Louis Poulsen’s influence is embedded in some of the world’s most recognisable lighting designs. The pioneering PH Series, created by Dane Poul Henningsen in the 1920s, introduced an innovative three-shade system directing light precisely while eliminating glare. The iconic PH5 pendant, introduced in 1958, remains one of Louis Poulsen’s most celebrated designs. Its layered, sculptural form was engineered to provide comfortable, glare-free light regardless of the bulb used, making it a fixture that has remained relevant across generations.
Henningsen’s PH Artichoke, also designed in 1958, further established Louis Poulsen’s place in architectural history. Created originally for a Copenhagen restaurant, the sculpturally dramatic pendant features 72 carefully positioned “leaves”, concealing the light source while producing a soft, layered glow.
Today, Louis Poulsen’s architectural lighting systems continue the same commitment to precision, comfort and balance. For Lucian, the partnership represents the ability to bring together technically refined architectural systems and decorative pieces with a deep design pedigree, reflecting a shared commitment to creating environments shaped by beauty, function and the enduring power of light.
