Warm Haven – Moore Park by Elizabeth Metcalfe Design
French-inspired, Moore Park is the result of integrating the delicacies of a European heritage into a subdued and muted sanctuary. Elizabeth Metcalfe Design adds moments of whimsy and a dream-life softness through the selection of a warm internal palette, which also encourages a natural flow between spaces and inside and out.
Spanning two levels, the home was originally designed and built in the 1980s. Aligning with the features of a contemporary occupation, there is an obvious internal focus created within Moore Park, with cosy layers of texture encouraging spaces of respite and recharge within. Surrounding the outer envelope of the residence, the landscape and natural elements create a buffering between the home and its neighbours. Located in Rosedale, Toronto, Moore Park by Elizabeth Metcalfe Design celebrates both the traditional and modern insertions, ensuring the resulting spaces feel like an escape from the outside world.
Colour is used to mark various destinations within the home. A clear integration of classical and European influences is evidenced through the use of quality and lasting materials such as stone, brass and timber. Like any family home, a focus on longevity and durability ensures an elevation of the everyday. Whilst the residence responds to the area and its past iterations, refinement and considered detailing were key drivers of the design approach, with an artisanal focus sitting paramount in all decisions.
Intertwining a tapestry of rich and tactile textiles such as linen, cotton, velvet, mohair and cashmere, the layered approach integrates a luxurious comfort. Whilst every space tells a story of time, place and people, each is able to be customised further. Complementing the existing detailing, newer elements are selected for their form and charm, which add to the overall narrative of the home.
