Against the backdrop of an existing retail space in Sydney, MuMu sits as a vibrant and curious place to engage in a delight for all the senses. The restaurant’s creators – Dan Hong, Justin Hemmes and Oliver Hua – worked closely with George Livissianis to ensure the interior atmosphere was realised to its fullest. Envisioned as a space that reflected their respective travels through Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam, the resulting contrasts and liveliness captures the energetic spirit of street food stalls and night markets.

The space takes form through an expressive orange bar as its feature, with luxurious booths of deep emerald inviting visitors to stay for long periods. Mustard-coloured banquettes add further comfort to the space, creating an immersive and tactile experience. Through careful placement, the inserted elements allow the existing space and the remnants of its commercial past to remain in place, with a colour story inspired by the artworks that are disseminated across the space and its various surfaces.
