How do you design an office for a company that is ‘remote first’? That is the question interior design studio Rezen Studio had to answer when creating a new base in Perth, Australia, for gold mining company Newmont.

With a desire to bring more light into their working space and have an office that suited their way of working, Newmont recently moved into a renovated building in Perth’s Subiaco neighbourhood. Rezen turned their vision into a reality by not following the usual processes of office design but instead creating a ‘work club’ – a space that allows for informal and formal interactions between workers, and for planned and unplanned collaboration.

Statement pendant lighting, curated display ornaments and textural nuances in the joinery come together to make this space warm and inviting.

Priority was given to social and meeting spaces over traditional desk areas, using soft furnishings that are complemented by warm colours to create a sense of comfort. A tonal neutral colour palette is punctuated with touches of rich red, seen in side tables in the break-out space and an abstract patterned rug. Blue is used intermittently throughout too – dark navy in curvaceous sofas, and light blue in cabinetry and feature ceiling patterns.

Floor-to-ceiling glass encases the office, covered in sheer drapes to bring privacy and softness without sacrificing the all-important light. Meanwhile, statement pendant lighting, curated display ornaments and textural nuances in the joinery come together to make this space warm and inviting. This is the kind of place that, when employees do come into the office, they relish each visit.
