Elevating the Outdoors – New HAY Collections and Colours

Words by Aimee O’Keefe

Thoughtfully rejuvenating an outdoor classic, the Palissade collection of outdoor furniture designed by French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for HAY is now available in a rich new shade of iron red. Originally released in olive green and neutral shades, Palissade re-enters the outdoor furniture scene with the striking red shade that integrates beautifully into a natural outdoor landscape or outdoor urban setting.

The collection maintains its sense of unity through its strong geometric, linear minimalistic shape. The rich red marks a new direction for the existing selection – the shade ages beautifully over time and immediately imbues a sense of warmth into any outdoor space.

HAY’s iconic Crate Collection has been relaunched in a Rietveld Originals x HAY collaboration. Initially designed in the 1930s by Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, the Crate Collection was created to make use of surplus wooden shipping crates. The re-launch effortlessly reiterates the simple, pragmatic and laid-back approach to design that HAY is known for. The collection comprises a lounge chair, dining chair, low table and side table. Each piece has been made with respect for the original design, sharing the same precisely balanced proportions and transparent construction, and infused with a subtle contemporary edge.

An entirely new collection from HAY, the Week-day collection redefines robust yet universally appealing outdoor furniture design. Inspired by designers Hannes & Fritz’s impromptu resolution to a lack of seating at a dinner party, the collection of outdoor benches and tables is made with strong, durable pine planks that will patinate gracefully over time. The collection’s water-based, weather-resistant surface treatment makes it suitable for both inside and outside. This combination of a solid, robust quality with softly rounded joints and a nostalgic aesthetic lends a sense of comfort and familiarity.
