Manufactured at Timberlink’s facility in Tarpeena, South Australia, NeXTimber represents a significant step forward for Australian sovereign manufacturing capability. Officially opened in 2024, the facility is Australia’s first integrated producer of both CLT and GLT from locally grown radiata pine, reducing reliance on imported mass timber products while providing greater certainty around supply, lead times and project delivery.
CLT panels are formed by bonding layers of timber in alternating directions, creating large-format structural elements with exceptional rigidity, dimensional stability and precision. Digitally fabricated using CNC technology, the panels can be used for walls, floors, roofs and stair structures. GLT, meanwhile, aligns timber laminations in a single direction to create beams, columns and portal frames capable of carrying substantial structural loads. Together, the products offer architects a versatile material that balances warmth, performance and technical predictability.
The appeal of mass timber extends beyond aesthetics and construction efficiency. Timber stores carbon for the life of a building, creating opportunities to significantly reduce embodied carbon compared with conventional materials. On K’gari/Fraser Island in Queensland, the striking K’gari House by Sparks Architects – installed by Evergreen Projects – showcases the architectural potential of mass timber in a sensitive coastal setting. The residence employs prefabricated NeXTimber CLT throughout its walls, floors and roof structure, creating a refined yet robust shell designed to withstand the island environment. The prefabricated timber elements also delivers the warmth and tactility that define the home’s interiors.

Further south, NeXTimber supplied almost 200 CLT panels for the Flinders University Factory of the Future and Tonsley Technical College development in Adelaide. Installed across floor and roof structures, the panels formed a substantial component of a project dedicated to innovation, advanced manufacturing and skills development. Delivered across 22 truckloads, the mass timber solution demonstrates how locally manufactured engineered timber can support complex educational and institutional projects while contributing to sustainability goals.
