Owen Wright Byron House
Surfing bronze medallist Owen Wright and his musician wife Kita Alexander have listed their Byron Bay beach house, the first property created by their development company, Paradiso Property, in partnership with Molti and Burke Urban.
Former professional surfer Owen Wright – who became Australia’s first surfing medallist when he won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – and his singer wife Kita Alexander have put their Byron Beach home on the market. Listed at $6.5 million, the Clarkes Beach property is part of a collection of four freestanding residences created by the couples’ Paradiso Property venture in partnership with developers Molti and Burke Urban.
Designed by architect Hogg & Lamb, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom house embodies the essence of Byron Bay’s enviable coastal lifestyle – relaxed and refined, with seamless interactions between interiors and alfresco spaces. “Our approach was all about connection – between indoors and outdoors and between people within the home,” says practice co-founder Michael Hogg. “Each home responds to its orientation, with layouts that maximise light, comfort and privacy.”
Set across two levels, the ground floor features an open-plan kitchen and dining zone and a distinct lounge room, all of which open to the lawn, pool and outdoor living area. “The lounge is slightly set apart to allow separation without isolation – you can still hear what’s happening while enjoying your own space,” explains Hogg. Upstairs are four bedrooms – including a master suite with its own balcony, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite – and a family-friendly lounge area.
“When I found the site, I could instantly see its potential – it’s rare to find a spot this close to the beach that still feels so peaceful and family-friendly.”
For Wright, the completed project is the culmination of a vision that began in 2018, when he purchased the land in Daniels Street, a 10-minute walk to Clarkes Beach. “When I found the site, I could instantly see its potential – it’s rare to find a spot this close to the beach that still feels so peaceful and family-friendly,” he recalls. “The project has been years in the making so to see it finished feels like a really special milestone.”
Wright and Alexander’s nascent development company, Paradiso Property, teamed with Molti and Burke Urban, two of the country’s most-respected developers, to bring the project to life. Burke Urban director Kym Burke says what differentiates the new-build residences is that they are freestanding – unique for developments in the region. “The homes are a rare find in most coastal locations, but particularly in Byron where new development is mostly apartment and townhouse focused,” says Burke. “They are truly exceptional properties, and it has been such a joy to work with Owen, Kita and our partners to deliver something so special.”
“Every detail, from the material palette to the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, has been considered to create something truly special.”
Molti manager director Ben Teague says expectations around the property are high. “We’re expecting really strong interest,” he says. “Every detail, from the material palette to the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, has been considered to create something truly special. Homes of this calibre, in locations like this, don’t come along often.”
