One Five Six brings together the elegance and timelessness of an international city to a growing and popular inner-city hub with water views, aiming to appeal to a wider range of residents. Referencing the likes of stately and enduring buildings in both New York and London, Paul Conrad Architects looks beyond the typical Queenslander style in designing this New Farm development.

While this is not your typical architectural response in Brisbane, it is a welcomed one. The building proposes a new sub-tropical Australian style in itself – one focused on openness, elevation and global appeal.

Each of the residences maintains the same lightness of a home expected of the area but does so with well-honed sophistication.

Although the typical Queenslander home literally raises its residents off the ground, One Five Six elevates them in another way. Each of the residences maintains the same lightness of a home expected of the area but does so with well-honed sophistication. Key to the restrained approach is the replacement of any on-trend elements with clean lines and an emphasis on flow as an important benchmark. Unlike many other multi-residential offerings, proportion and scale are exaggerated to reduce the feeling of enclosure and create better connections internally and externally with the surrounding decks. With a calming overall colour palette, materials of lasting nature are used for their robustness and to ensure a continued relevance over time. In the warmth created, there is also a deliberate sense of sophistication.

Our homes are becoming increasingly about escape from the stimuli of busy. hyperconnected lives. So it makes for a logical argument that, both now and even more so in the future, our residences will need to provide a sense of reprieve and be calming havens to recharge. One Five Six idyllically captures that spirit while proposing a new vision for Brisbane.
