Contrasting Vibrancy – Presto by WOWOWA

Inspired by the home’s original tones, Presto exaggerates a sense of immersion among a vibrant and saturated palette of raspberry and pastel blue. WOWOWA carefully extends the existing home to bring in an abundance of natural light – creating a distinct residential experience.

Located in Preston, among an eclectic community and varying architectural styles, the new addition draws a connection from within the immediate home to the outer community. In a striking rejuvenation, the home’s new volume is conceived as the original home’s vibrant counterpart. Whilst the bones of the home remain and are extruded out, the existing form is used as inspiration for the more dialled up iteration to follow. Ensuring the existing heritage structure was not over shadowed, the rear is rebuilt and reconfigured through a modest lens – seeing WOWOWA deliberately retain a nod to the history of the home whilst preparing for its enlivened next chapter.

Originally built in the 1930s, the existing rear was removed and opened to make way for the addition. As a reflection of contemporary residential life, the new form continues the original roofline and opens internally to allow for 4.5-metre-high ceilings to encourage additional natural light into the home. The addition of glazing around the new form and large operable doors further reinforces a connection to the landscape design.

As a weaving in among the existing, the new form sits open to the rear. Taking inspiration from the clinker bricks of the original, raspberry tones are paired with a pastel blue. Bringing both a playfulness in form and colour, the new volume allows for a connective open living space that encourages a social lifestyle.

Connecting both outward and inward, Presto brings together vibrant tones as a distinct backdrop for life. WOWOWA overlays an activation through colour and form, creatively intertwining contemporary design with the existing form whilst extending and evolving the original principles of the home.
