Bathed in warm colours and rich with unique character, Rancho Mirage is a textural and visual feat. Studio AR&D Architects and Josh Greene Design have created a timeless home that marries mid-century values with a dynamic, contemporary context.

Rancho Mirage, one of nine mid-century-inspired new builds, evokes a nostalgic 1970s charm through a modernist lens. Nestled in the picturesque Californian desert, the surrounding landscape enhances the home’s reflective ambiance. The low-level structure serves as a perfect backdrop, pairing perfectly with the region’s idyllic sunsets, expansive vistas and distant peaks. Generous windows invite the outdoors in while allowing natural light to interact beautifully with the interior spaces.

The home boldly embraces colour, featuring a carefully curated, saturated palette that weaves seamlessly throughout the interior, creating a tranquil oasis.

Each hue adds warmth and intrigue without overwhelming the senses. The striking palette feels like an extension of the dwelling’s design, reflecting its 1970s influence while incorporating contemporary touches. From painted ceilings and colourful rugs to daring marble and bold patterns, colour is used throughout Rancho Mirage to evoke a sense of freedom and composure, all while honouring the residence’s original vision. Round motifs contrast with linear shapes, creating a balance of movement, and in the kitchen, darker shades are complemented by the natural warmth of timber, eliciting a visually balanced narrative.

Each room tells its own unique tonal story, where colour blends with textured patterns and a strong material palette. Natural elements like timber, marble and stone connect the interior to the surrounding environment, allowing their tonal counterparts to shine. Stone feature walls add a visually tactile quality while grounding the space in its local context. Bold marble features inject curiosity and playful energy, complemented by a thoughtful use of colour that embraces both presence and purpose.
