As a unique capture of its owners, Salsa Verde combines a global nomad spirit with a refinement of longevity. Arent&Pyke adds complementary layers to a recent renovation, injecting colour, texture and interesting materiality to craft a series of spaces that are the embodiment of luxury living.

What started as a humble workers cottage in Eastern Sydney has been transformed into a home that befits its owners. While the frontage and reminders of the original home remain, the overall silhouette had been opened through a recent reworking of its volumes with Sam Crawford Architects. Key to the latest revitalisation work was the creation of clear and binding connections between inside and out, and throughout the shared living spaces. Framing views out into the landscape surrounding the home was also integral to the brief, funnelling movement into the prized outdoor spaces. In adding this final and personalised layering, Arent&Pyke ensures the ideal foundations for entertaining are formed.

Balancing the home’s capacity for entertaining and peaceful solitude, the creation of a varying scale of open and closed elements is seen throughout. In crafting a more scaled down level of passiveness, flexibility was key to the overall planning and placement of furniture and joinery, allowing for adaptation as needed. Through a combination of contrasting elements, texture and colour, diversity is injected into the various corners of the home, celebrating both a liveliness and a desire to retreat. Having lived overseas for many years, both in Hong Kong and New York, bringing parts of those vibrant cities and lifestyles into the Sydney home was important to the owners.

From a warm base, a palette of rich finishes comes together across all the interior spaces. Enlivened further through the selections of furniture, artwork, lighting and objects, the home comes alive with collections of unique pieces. Instilling both a sense of character and immersion was formative to the approach, while still ensuring that the home felt rightfully disconnected from the streetscape as a place of recharge.

As a collection of unexpected moments, Salsa Verde unfurls itself as a contemporary addition to the existing heritage home, embedding a lasting impression of its current custodians. Arent&Pyke ensures a true connection between people and place, allowing the occupants to make the home uniquely theirs over the coming years.
