In Partnership with Stylecraft

Spanning almost a decade, the partnership between Skeehan Studio and Stylecraft is built on the triple tenets of creativity, innovation and beautiful local furniture design.

A true cornerstone of Stylecraft’s portfolio of Australian designers, Skeehan Studio creates design solutions that seek to reconnect people with the material world around them. Now, entering the 10th year of their partnership, Skeehan Studio and Stylecraft are launching two new ranges, ushering in a new era for this creative collaboration.

Led by the genuinely down-to-earth creative director and industrial designer Tom Skeehan, Skeehan Studio is a business that thrives on creative partnerships.

Led by the genuinely down-to-earth creative director and industrial designer Tom Skeehan, Skeehan Studio is a business that thrives on creative partnerships. Transparency through the exchange of ideas is paramount to all the studio’s processes, materials and collaborations. Skeehan’s design solutions stem from thorough research into raw materiality and how design will ultimately benefit the user. It was this considered approach to design and manufacturing that first put Skeehan and his team on Stylecraft’s radar back in 2014.

Starting with the now-iconic Hoshi armchair – which would eventually be joined by a collection of lounging options and tables – the partnership between Skeehan and Stylecraft is centred on original Australian design brought to life through sustainable local manufacturing. It is fitting then, that on the eve of their 10th anniversary, the duo has launched the Hoshi Butter armchair, a reimagined classic with a softer, more luxurious feel, a product befitting a special anniversary.

Defined by the Hoshi frame, coupled with a more ‘buttery’ cushion, the Hoshi Butter armchair brings a renewed sense of playful elegance to the heralded range. The studio worked with Kvadrat Maharam to offer a range of considered fabrics which help inform the new direction for this modern classic piece of Australian design history.

Launching alongside the Hoshi Butter armchair – which made its debut at this year’s Melbourne Design Week – is the TAG modular collection. Designed exclusively for Stylecraft, this lounging system combines bespoke tailoring with innovative functionality, making it the ideal furniture solution for public spaces. Existing at the intersection of commercial-grade upholstery and custom tailoring, the TAG collection seamlessly blurs the lines between style and function, a reflection of what has made the partnership between Skeehan and Stylecraft so successful.

Looking ahead, Skeehan Studio is developing a focused collection centred upon education utilising its HIVE collection of systems, tables, storage solutions and soft furnishings. Offering flexibility, practicality and, most importantly, comfort, the studio’s upcoming work holds it in good stead for another decade of design excellence.
