Connecting to the original beginnings of VOLA during the early modernist period, stainless steel expresses both the brand’s lineage and the core pillar of enduring quality. VOLA’s many iterations and explorations of shape and materiality capture the inherent flexibility of stainless steel in its many guises.

VOLA’s story and the use of stainless steel throughout design both coincided with an explorative period of industrial curiosity. Modernism drew on new mechanised means to expand, contract and shape metals in ways unexplored previously, and the fluid and curving geometries of stainless steel aligned with the brand’s ethos during this time. Now, decades later, after countless experiments and years of understanding its limitations, stainless steel remains a core expression of VOLA – classic and enduring.

Stainless steel has a strength that has outlived its many other counterparts and remained as a popular inclusion in all areas of architecture and design. Emphasising the importance of quality, VOLA utilities a unique hand-brushed finish in each of its stainless-steel products, aligning with initial modernist principles of restraint and the uninterrupted lines of the intended design. Adding a subtle and muted silver hue to each space the pieces are inserted into, a balanced modesty is stirred between the fixtures and their surrounding elements, not competing or seeking attention. The reflectivity and interplay with light offers a similar subtlety as the surface of water itself, reinforcing a connection to nature at its core.

By using the highest-grade steel through production, VOLA is able to recycle and reuse 100 percent of its waste generated through production, completing its zero-waste circle. Machined from solid, authentic and marine-grade stainless steel and through the designing of timeless shapes, each piece is imagined to last generations, where its longevity then feeds into the VOLA sustainability story. The company’s commitment to wellness of the environment and of people also sees the deeply embedded elements of tradition and conscious design, together with ergonomically considered shapes always present, emphasised by high-quality production.

VOLA’s stainless steel accentuates the crafted beginnings of the brand and the corresponding exploration during the modernist period. Brining together quality materials, reduction in waste and a focus on wellness, stainless steel encapsulates VOLA’s return to the inspiration of nature and the want to live in balance with it.
