Stylecraft and StylecraftHOME are excited to introduce Norwegian furniture company Eikund to their collection of leading European furniture and lighting brands.

Norway is a country blessed with a rich history, an awe-inspiring natural environment and a design legacy of Nordic mid-century modernism, often hidden amongst the more mainstream examples of Scandinavian design. Conscious of this distinct lack of recognition in a more modern context, Norwegian furniture company Eikund is committed to re-launching Nordic furniture classics. By adding Eikund to its already comprehensive collection of European brands, Stylecraft is joining the cause, in the process exposing Australia to classic examples of Norwegian furniture.

Norwegian furniture company Eikund is committed to re-launching Nordic furniture classics.

Established in the Norwegian city of Hellvick, Eikund was founded on the romantic notion of “uncovering hidden design classics to bring to the public eye.” Through extensive research by the team at Eikund, colloquially known as treasure hunters, the company has been able to source original drawings, archives and information relating to these important pieces of Norwegian design history. From here, Eikund has then given each piece a new lease on life by subtly modernising the items to suit contemporary interiors, while staying true to the traditional manufacturing techniques of their predecessors.

By bringing Eikund to Australia, Stylecraft is providing increased access to a body of relaunched work from a collective of significant mid-century Nordic designers. The range of chairs, lounge chairs, tables and accessories has been designed with a clear modernist inspiration, creating simple, functional, and beautifully crafted furniture.

Eikund’s mission to highlight the timeless nature of Norwegian design classics can be seen in such pieces as the Krysset and Fluffy Lounge Chairs, designed by Fredrik A. Kayser in the 1950s, and the Evja collection of tables, designed by Torbjørn Bekken in 1958. The Eikund collection of products also includes the Veng Armchair, once again designed by Torbjørn Bekken in 1960, and the Øya Table, designed by Sigurd Resell in 1956.

Proving to be a natural addition to Stylecraft’s collection of European brands, Eikund’s collection of relaunched Norwegian furniture pieces are suited to both residential and commercial spaces, often adorning the floors of restaurants, premium hotels and beautiful homes around the world. Designed and manufactured to provide beauty as well as functionality, the Eikund collection is elegant in design and nostalgic in execution. In a world where imitation furniture is far too common, Eikund’s ethos of recreation over replication is helping to pay tribute to significant mid-century designers, whilst drawing attention to an overlooked body of Scandinavian design.
