WOODCUT’s textural, luxurious Roman Grey chevron flooring elevates Sync Architecture’s Tashinny Residence in Toorak, Melbourne.

A home is grounded in flooring – literally as well as figuratively. In the case of Tashinny Residence, Sync Architecture worked with WOODCUT for the home’s flooring needs, opting for Roman Grey chevron flooring to set the tone of the overall interior design and elevate the space through its texture and luxurious quality. Combining natural timber with a parquetry style imbues a distinct sense of movement and an artful, high-end feel that seamlessly integrates with the home’s aesthetic.

“Roman Grey has a muted and washed tone … it pairs beautifully with contemporary and monochrome finishes.”

Known for its premium engineered timber flooring, WOODCUT combines form and function in its wide range of products, constructed from oak, ash and walnut. Experienced in designing for both commercial and high-end residential environments, WOODCUT considered its Roman Grey chevron flooring the perfect complement to the opulent look and feel of Tashinny Residence, located in the affluent inner-city locale of Toorak in Melbourne’s south-east.

Defined by a subtle tone and soft texture underfoot, Roman Grey is constructed with a European oak top layer in a natural grade and is available in straight board, herringbone and chevron styles. “Roman Grey has a muted and washed tone, sitting in between a brown and a grey,” says Sync Architecture. “It pairs beautifully with contemporary and monochrome finishes, like the New Grey Tundra chevron tiles it is laid with at the bottom of the stairs in the home.”

Sync Architecture employed the Roman Grey in a chevron parquetry style – an artform in itself – and its precise alignment and symmetry imbue the home with a sophisticated and refined grounding. “A chevron lay has floorboards cut at a 45-degree angle, meeting symmetrically at a point, with a straight line running down the middle,” says Stefan Glogovac, WOODCUT’s managing director. “It’s a classic design that can elevate the look of any space, whether traditional or modern. The sense of movement – due to the distinctive V-shaped design of the chevron pattern – adds a dynamic dimension to Tashinny Residence.”

The home is the result of a seamless collaboration between WOODCUT, Concept Build and Sync Architecture. “At WOODCUT, we pride ourselves on creating long-term relationships with architects, designers and builders, educating them on our products and making those products easy to specify and purchase for a variety of homes,” says Stefan. “Sync Architecture, a long-term specifier of WOODCUT, fell in love with the Roman Grey in chevron, and has made it a signature style in a lot of their designs.”
