Designed by AXE Architects, The Atelier in Melbourne blends raw and refined materials to craft spaces that tell their own story, prioritising lifestyle needs and a strong connection to nature.

With a brief that called for a response to site conditions while embodying modern Australian aesthetics, The Atelier is a study in spatial elegance, material sophistication and experiential design. Located in Balwyn, Melbourne, and designed by AXE Architects, the bespoke three-storey residence embodies a sophisticated dialogue between nature, light and the materials that define it. The home’s design responds not just to the site, but to the evolving demands of contemporary Australian living.

Throughout the residence, Urban Republic’s NX Decor cabinetry plays a pivotal role, with its striking contrast of rich black tones and warm woodgrain finishes.

From the outset, the house’s layout fosters a strong connection with its surroundings, particularly with the shared central park at the rear. Large steel-framed windows create a continuous flow of light, enhancing the transparency of the spaces while providing stunning views of the lush greenery. Every element of the house, from the carefully orchestrated circulation spaces to the sculptural pitched ceiling, highlights the dynamic relationship between interior and exterior, ensuring that each transition feels both intentional and immersive.

The material palette creates tactile and visual contrasts, enhancing the sense of space. Australian oak timber joinery from Urban Republic grounds the home with natural warmth, while terrazzo-finished stone floors introduce cool elegance. For added luxury and depth, Taj Mahal marble completes the composition. Throughout the residence, Urban Republic’s NX Decor cabinetry plays a pivotal role, with its striking contrast of rich black tones and warm woodgrain finishes. The bespoke cabinetry offers not just functionality but a seamless integration with the broader architectural vision, showcasing Urban Republic’s commitment to blending high-end design with exceptional craftsmanship.

In The Atelier, Urban Republic’s signature cabinetry solutions and wall panels bring a cohesive and elevated touch to the entire home’s design.
