The Spirit of Collaboration – Boffi
As a continuation of Boffi’s holistic design approach, the inimitable Italian brand’s Melbourne and Sydney design studios are not only intended to showcase the extensive range of products within the Boffi|De Padova Group, including MA/U Studio, ADL and the recently introduced Time & Style edition, but to be spaces that facilitate collaboration within the design industry.
Since Boffi’s Australian inception in 2013, such collaborations have seen many local architects and designers incorporating Boffi products and their associated brands into their work. The list of Australian projects that have drawn on Boffi’s comprehensive, highly customisable product offering is a testament to the strong relationships that Boffi has within the Australian architecture and design industry.
The Boffi | DePadova range is grounded in the company’s continual research and development, which sees a seamless blend of technology with design rigour – a philosophy that spans over 80 years since the company was founded in 1934. Along with its own evolution, Boffi’s integration of four other similarly innovative companies under its production and design umbrella has seen these separate, yet synonymous brands come together to form a holistic offering that spans across the entire residential space.
With Boffi’s highly customisable kitchen, bathroom and wardrobe systems providing a strong foundation for contemporary interiors, each of the four partner brands brings a new perspective into the mix. De Padova, which merged with Boffi in 2015, offers timeless yet contemporary furniture and lighting collections. MA/U Studio’s innovative modular shelving and furnishing, ADL’s technologically advanced door and partition solutions, and the most recent addition to the Boffi family, Time & Style ēdition, with its collection of hand-crafted Japanese furniture, all ensure Boffi’s design offering is fully rounded, providing a rich source of inspiration for architects and designers.
Boffi’s collaborative approach extends not only to working with architects and designers on their own projects but to the design of product collections. Led by Boffi’s Creative Director, architect Piero Lissoni, the company’s in-house team of architects and designers have joined forces with leaders in the industry to bring to life unique collections. Notable collaborations of this nature include Patricia Urquiola’s multi-award-winning kitchen Salinas, the Shortcut accessories and Othello bathroom cabinets by Nendo, Elisa Ossino’s ‘Erei’ range and ‘Elementi’ lighting within the DePadova collection, and the Sabbia bath and basins by Naoto Fukasawa .
Similarly, Boffi partners with various best-in-class manufacturers when it comes to its bespoke finishes and integrated technology. Examples include Domenico Mori’s handcrafted ceramic surface design, Salvatori’s array of distinctive natural stones and De Castelli’s industrial metallic finishes. Exploring the limits of materiality and production capability, Boffi is guided by an enduring emphasis on handcrafted techniques and bespoke manufacturing, in which quality of production and of design are two sides of the same coin.
With Boffi and its partner brands at the forefront of design globally, it is in the design studios at Darlinghurst, Sydney, and Collingwood, Melbourne, that the products and design ethos behind them take on a local significance as they become customised in collaboration with Australian architects and designers. Responsive to local contexts and conditions while embodying the best of timeless Italian design and manufacturing, Boffi continues to lead the way in creating inspiring, enduring connections.
