An iconic insertion within any interior, the Togo collection by Ligne Roset celebrates its 50th anniversary, cementing its reign as paramount in global design. Available in Australia exclusively through DOMO, the sofa’s casual yet elegant curves and low profile are both timeless and effortless.

Prevailing through five decades of changing trends, the Togo, designed by Michel Ducaroy, remains just as revolutionary today as when it was first presented to the world. Inspired by innovative technologies and distinctive silhouettes, Ducaroy’s designs endure as both everlasting pieces and exemplary contemporary feats. Consistently pushing boundaries to create, he was inspired to design Togo whilst brushing his teeth, after examining the peculiar bends and curves of his toothpaste tube. The first Togo was then unveiled in 1973 at the Salondes Arts Ménagers in Paris – winning the René-Gabriel prize – and has captured the hearts of design enthusiasts ever since. A modular series was further developed to complement the original piece, allowing for unmatched versatility and stylistically individualised aesthetics.

The handcrafted nature of Togo adds to its appeal. Its frameless, all-foam construction means that the modular pieces are easy to move and configure, making them effortlessly bespoke to individual spaces and motifs. Available in various densities tailored for personal preference, the low-height seating provides ergonomic support, moulding to the body and delivering lumbar support as needed. Each piece is then covered in multi-layered, handsewn fabric or leather to create the iconic folded and curved silhouette that the chair is well known for today.

The flexibility of the modular series allows for the creation of a range of formations. Ideal as classic statement pieces or able to be reconfigured together, the collection features the Togo Fireside Chair, Togo Footstool, Togo Small Settee, Togo Corner Settee and Togo Large Settee Without Arms, as well as the family-friendly Mini Togo.

The collection is available in 50 customisable fabrics and leathers, a versatility that allows Togo to suit varying interior aesthetics and palettes. This includes the suede-like, hardwearing and family-friendly microfibre Alcantara; Vidar – a wear-resistant, coarse wool fabric; soft natural leather; Cordue – a soft cotton, corduroy velvet that echoes the vintage nostalgia of the 1970s; the robust yet luxuriously blended Dios; and the tightly-woven, 100 per cent cotton velvet Harald.

The flexibility and timelessness of the collection can be encapsulated in the many and varied interiors that feature Togo. The design has not only stood the test of time; it remains integrally contemporary – a piece that looks as though it could have been designed today. With a playful, inviting and comfortable appearance that appeals to the young-at-heart, Togo lends itself to a wide variety of spaces and styles.

Handcrafted in France, the Togo collection by Ligne Roset is exclusively available in Australia at DOMO – and, if the unwavering admiration for this collection is any indication, will remain so for many years to come.

It is its timeless appeal that has allowed Togo to hold steadfast against the changing trends found in the design world of today. Celebrating 50 years of quality and comfort, the range still holds true to its original design, honouring an instinctively curved silhouette in a way that no other piece has been able to achieve.
