Offering a seamless finish and minimal waste, Tongue & Groove’s new 2.9-metre engineered timber boards are the most recent addition to the brand’s diverse range. The unique length is purposefully designed to clad expansive surfaces with minimal join lines, creating a sleek and impactful finish.

The length of the new boards affords designers the freedom to create a seamless, modern interior by eradicating join lines, offering a more consistent finish with less colour variation. As well as floors and ceilings, the boards’ length makes them a highly practical choice for walls and also allows for two standard stair treads to be cut from each board. This makes them cost-efficient and supports less wastage due to the reduction of off-cut waste.

The 2.9-metre boards are available in two Tongue & Groove styles, Grande and Piccolo, and are available in all three grades and a range of 16 colours.

Practicality is at the core of the new range, says Tongue & Groove General Manager of Operations, Kevin Nel. “The set industry sizes weren’t allowing architects and designers to create timber cladding with minimal joins, unless using extremely long boards – such as our 3.6-metre and 5-metre boards – that are less cost-effective. It became apparent that people have been making do with the shorter lengths when a better solution was available. So, we began to develop a product to fill this gap in the market.”

The 2.9-metre boards are available in two Tongue & Groove styles, Grande and Piccolo, and are available in all three grades and a range of 16 colours. At a width of 220mm, Grande injects a subtle contemporary feel and adds texture to large spaces, while Piccolo (189mm width) is an elegant, slim board that nurtures a sense of space in smaller areas. The highly versatile styles are also strong and durable, manufactured using the brand’s unique three-layered solid European oak structure.

Up to 70 per cent of repurposed materials were used during the construction of the boards while ensuring minimal off-cut waste of the raw material.

Sustainability played an integral role in the development of the new board length. The boards derive from FSC-certified European oak forests, with mature trees that hadn’t been cut to standard sizes. Up to 70 per cent of repurposed materials were used during the construction of the boards while ensuring minimal off-cut waste of the raw material.

Providing a seamless, sustainable design solution, the boards are custom-made with a 12- to 16-week lead time for each individual order.
