The result of the pursuit of a shared passion for good design, quality craftmanship and a genuine approach to business, In Good Company is the Melbourne-based design destination founded by husband and wife team John and Louise Bastiras.
Bringing together over three decades of design experience, Louise and John evoke a sense of family-owned authenticity from within their Armadale showroom. Since opening their doors almost one year ago, In Good Company has developed an enviable portfolio of Australian and international furniture, lighting and artwork, fulfilling a rapidly growing demand for the supply of quality furniture and styling solutions that offer beauty as well as everyday functionality.
Representing a truly considered edit of elevated Australian and global brands focused on authentic design outcomes, the highly curated In Good Company offering celebrates the timeless appeal of good design in the most tangible and beautiful way possible. Supporting the aesthetic of the products on display is the experience and nuanced knowledge that comes from two lives devoted to design. “There’s absolutely no compromising on authenticity,” says Louise. “We support historic and established collections, and for the newer collections, we look for longevity. We also love smaller brands that might not have had major recognition but nevertheless have a beautiful design story behind them.”
Whilst the foundation year of In Good Company’s existence has by no means been an easy ride and the one year anniversary naturally altered somewhat, John and Louise have maintained the values for which the business was founded and built upon their uncompromising approach to design. They have used the introduction of the physical showroom space to further develop their business, in which they also consult with clients on residential properties and work closely with some of Australia’s best architects and interior designers.
Looking to the future, Louise and John have drawn focus towards expanding In Good Company’s locally designed and manufactured collections, including a range by John himself, and developing new partnerships with some of Australia’s most highly regarded design professionals. As the first year of this journey draws to an end, there is no doubting that the Australian design landscape is richer for In Good Company’s existence and Louise and John’s steadfast belief in the value of good design.
