Combining an earthed grounding through materiality and texture, Vaucluse Residence sets the scene for its growing family, drawing on a timeless and classic approach. Together with Sofair Design, The Unlisted Collective cocoons the residents in a series of connected spaces that are both expressive and uniquely adorned.

Located in the same-named Vaucluse, a layered approach combines both the personalities of the occupants and an individualised curation of artwork, furniture and lighting throughout. Vaucluse Residence is spread over three generous levels and sits in an enviable position with views out towards the ocean and to the surrounding landscape elements. With architecture by Sofair Design and interior design by The Unlisted Collective, the collaboration ensures a sensitive insertion amongst its existing context, focusing on enhancing the everyday rituals within the home. Through a combination of geometric shapes and textures, varying levels of warmth are matched by the changing functions within the home, creating a luxurious and elevated residential experience that feels connected to place.

Vaucluse Residence optimises its raised location and brings a similar lightness in feel to the approach of the home. Key to the brief was the reminder of location; over many levels, light and ventilation pass naturally through various zones via operable elements. The strategic placement of openings allows passive cooling as a key functional feature of the home and, iconic to Sydney, to live naturally and aligned with the climate. The new home brings together multiple sleeping areas, a garage, outdoor terrace and dedicated pool area. The outdoor areas become their own destinations, acting as an extension of the home and complete with a pool cabana to allow for elongated stays.

As a central element, the kitchen and its expressive use of feature stone become a celebration of materiality. The curved edges hint at the movement of the nearby ocean and the flowing breezes that fill the home, while also softening the hustle of everyday life. The combination of heightened detailing and materiality culminates in a deep richness in finish, seeing warmth as a common denominator. Aged brass accents are used in conjunction with stone and oak elements to capture the wear of time and act as a resilient base. The integrated oak joinery both conceals the amenity of home life while also wrapping the heart of the home in a warm sleeve of its own.

Vaucluse Residence aims to endure well beyond its time. Using classically inspired materials and an open approach to living, The Unlisted Collective and Sofair Design have fulfilled this aspiration.
