Capturing the personality of its clients through an injection of expressive colour, texture and artwork, Wattle House by Golden combines a youthful vitality with a considered approach.

Taking form as an expressive reflection of its owners, Wattle House sees the recently renovated home given an additional injection of texture and form through a curated approach. Golden has taken cues from the home’s custodians and, through a contemporary lens, crafted a selection of pieces that facilitate the daily functions of the house. Capturing a sense of the home’s past and combining it with a future-focused understanding of how the spaces are planned to be used, the primary muse was the inhabitants themselves.

Throughout are gestures and clusters that speak to an intimacy and combustion of energy, an approach which is then reflected in the comprising palette and its parts.

Located in Armadale in Melbourne’s inner south-east, Wattle House celebrates a love of entertaining. These pockets of interest are dotted with interesting finishes and shapes that add to the conversation. Sitting along these more intentional gathering spaces are larger multipurpose areas, with unique custom joinery to complement and provide storage throughout.

The combination of curved travertine, polished aged brass, velvet and natural stone all bring rich layering to the home, while still maintaining visibility of the original detailing.

A balancing act was key to the successful implementation of the new design within this older home. Capturing and celebrating the existing character of the home, the associated detailing, cornices, architraves and detailed fixtures all needed to be maintained and not concealed. The resulting selection of objects, furniture, artwork and designed joinery elements speak to this balance. Golden has carefully curated the internal makings of this Victorian home to create a place of celebration – of its clients, of art, colour, texture and of the home’s life and history thus far.

Built by Osiris, Wattle House is crafted through elements of refreshment and unexpectedness, creating a series of spaces that truly are tailored for its owners. There are pockets of familiarity, of shapes and forms that are well-known, and these are then peppered with additional unique touchpoints to inject that point of difference. The evidence of personality within these walls is clear. The eclectic, bold use of colour and materiality speaks to a confidence, and a daring approach, driven by a clear shared vision of the client and designers.
