Hand made with precision and elegance, the J5 Cabinet designed by James Howe for Stylecraft, is for those who appreciate the union of design and functionality. The chevron-fluted doors are carved from solid timber, which is striking in appearance, yet softly spoken in its detail. The fluting frames the cabinet, concealing the push to open doors and inset brushed brass hinges. The attention to detail continues internally, with no visible bracketry supporting the shelves.
James Howe is a furniture and lighting designer from Adelaide. He seeks to pioneer new ground, creating objects which are at the same time beautiful and novel in their form and use of materials. A minimalist, Howe draws inspiration from what he observes in nature, city landscapes, and utilitarian man-made objects. His pieces are textural, tactile, imbued with a lightness and sophistication of form. He has been recognised in a number of design awards, including being named one of six finalists in the 2017 Australian Furniture Design Award.
Stylecraft has been providing furniture of original, contemporary design for 65 years. First established in Melbourne, Stylecraft is now represented in six showrooms around Australia, as well as one in Singapore.
