Drawing from classical and historical references, Unley Park Residence responds both to the surrounding area and the client’s desire to have a well-proportioned and generous home in this next chapter. Georgie Shepherd Interior Design and Genworth Group combine to propose a lasting residence that is connective and embeds a sense of longevity.

Located south of Adelaide, in the heritage surrounds of Unley Park, the home is sculpted to become a new iteration that pays respect to its context. Having previously lived in heritage houses, the owners wanted to create a residence that would reflect a familiarity, character and charm within a more contemporary and crisp approach. With architecture by Genworth Group and interior design by Georgie Shepherd Interior Design, the dwelling is evidently born from a close collaboration.

Reinterpreting the detailing and ornateness of an older structure through a modern lens sees the combination of natural stones and considered timber elements.

Although an enhanced sense of generosity was introduced, the architect crafts a series of volumes that emerge to reflect a similar scale as the neighbouring homes. Reinterpreting the detailing and ornateness of an older structure through a modern lens sees the combination of natural stones and considered timber elements. Brass accents and a muted palette defines the home, particularly the interior, which radiates out from its centrally located kitchen space. Both sculptural and sophisticated, the space is the newly identified heart of the home, connecting the other open living areas, and with clear visual connections to the landscape. The internal four-metre-high ceilings ensure a flowing movement between rooms, whilst a linear definition creates a rhythm within.

A similar linear style is created across the façade and into the depth of the home. Glass and masonry make up the front of the residence, whilst travertine steps of matched proportion set the tone for the house from approach. Unley Park Residence sits within a newly planned landscape by David Baptiste Garden Design. The landscape plays a vital role in reinforcing an openness throughout, with framed views from within leading out to the surrounds.
