Simple Pleasures – e15 at Living Edge
An integral part of the contemporary furniture collection at Living Edge, London-born e15 is renowned for producing pieces with clean lines and simple forms. With an uncompromised design standard and emphasis on purpose and function that elevates them beyond the ordinary, each design by e15 speaks to values of sustainability, authenticity and craftsmanship.
Founded in 1995 by architect Philipp Mainzer and designer and art director Farah Ebrahimi – with its understated name taken from the postal code of their first London workshop – e15’s debut collection immediately made a mark on the contemporary furniture design industry. Its initial collection of four tables was equal parts sturdy, practical and beautiful, quickly becoming timeless classics. Of this range, the Bigfoot, with its characteristic corner detailing, and the archetypal and minimalist Ponte are both included in Living Edge’s collection today.
A family-owned company, e15 is now based in Frankfurt, where it continues its legacy of creating unique, exceptionally finished furniture designs through a network of local and international designers and trusted regional craftsmen and suppliers. Creativity is fostered, with designers, architects and artists encouraged to make a statement through their work.
Those chosen to contribute to e15’s collections tend to foster the same philosophy towards refinement and creativity as the company’s founders. The brand has collaborated with such greats as Stefan Diez, who created the quintessentially robust Houdini chair with its wide potential for pops of colour, and also revisits modernist classics by 1920s stalwarts, such as the Calvert Coffee Table by Ferdin and Kramer and the Stuttgart Chair by Richard Herre.
Salone 2023 saw e15 introducing new products to great acclaim. The David Chipperfield-designed Galerie table was initially created for the cafe of the Neue National galerie, with the design’s visual identity capturing the architectural ethos of the building. In a play on proportions, Galerie is scaled to small, medium and large with corresponding tabletops offered with short or extended overhangs. Additionally, at Salone, e15 released Annabelle Klute’s Kaisa, a refined and reflective glass side table, along with the stop button-like Heiji table in coloured, lacquered plywood by founder Philipp Mainzer.
All e15 products are designed to meet high environmental standards, with materials and finishes chosen to protect the health of the planet and the user. This means choosing only Forest Stewardship Certified timbers and materials that support a circular economy, allowing for re-use when the product reaches end of life and also providing capacity to recycle offcuts and waste created in the manufacturing process. With this philosophy and an eye for timeless design, e15’s collections have true longevity that lasts through fashion, trends and generations.
