A calming beach retreat, Martini is enveloped in a sophisticated palette and dynamic tactility. With architecture and interior design by Inglis Architects and styling by Georgina Jeffries, natural materiality, organic lines and gentle hues imbue a refined sense of composure within the Portsea home.

Intended as an entertainment space for a young family with three children, Martini combines both Belgium farmhouse and Mexican beach house sensibilities. The soft tonality threaded throughout every design element contributes to the interior’s seamless, cohesive palette. Material also plays a large role in crafting Martini’s graceful ambience, drawing from natural textures such as timber, stone and tactile fabrics. With cultivated craft, Inglis Architects and Georgina Jeffries employ an elegance throughout Martini that echoes the surrounding vibrant natural environment.

Layered natural materials are used throughout the interior spaces to provide a calming sense of retreat.

Layered natural materials are used throughout the interior spaces to provide a calming sense of retreat. The living room and kitchen feature light-toned stone flooring that sets the foundation for the home’s soft palette. Coarse stone also frames the herringbone-lined terracotta fireplace, providing the ultimate centrepiece for the living room. Timber imbues the shared living space with an anticipated warmth and is reverberated throughout the whole home, including the master bedroom. Pops of linen, leathers and tactile fabrics, including the living room’s floor-length curtains, are further layered to soften the home’s material selection, adding dynamic textured moments throughout.

The vaulted ceiling of the shared living area gives the space an unexpected height, drawing the eye upwards. Rounded moments, such as the bar and accompanying mirror, as well as the curved dining table and chairs, soften the harsher angles seen in the kitchen island bench, square tiles and linearly lined cabinetry doors. A sculpture by Clementine Stoney Maconachie sits in the living room and strikes the perfect balance between both the round and linear aspects of the space.

Artwork by Jahnne Pasco-White, Jordy Hewitt and Kiaya Lee adorns the walls and sets the tone for Martini’s colour palette. Hues of browns, yellows and oranges fill the residence, further encouraging an undeniable sense of warmth. The children’s bedrooms feature custom bedheads alongside a curated selection of colourful linen present in pinks, blues and greens. The warm hues found in the kitchen are punctuated by black handles and touchpoints; subtle moments of black are also repeated in the bar stools and curtain rods to help balance the heaviness of the ornate stovetop and oven.

An idyllic seaside residence, Martini is the perfect oasis. Both Inglis Architects and Georgina Jeffries introduce a quiet elegance throughout with expert use of colour, material and craft.
