With the opportunity to design their own house, the owners’ vision for Beverlywood sees the home become a heartfelt homage to Puglia, a southern Italian region. And And And Studio draws inspiration from the outdoor lifestyle of this region for Beverlywood, proposing a unique abode that serves as a personal expression and a testament to the owners’ love of Italy.

Beverlywood emanates warmth and a sense of containment, comprising four distinct pavilions surrounding a central courtyard. With a deep appreciation for their experience in Italy, particularly in Puglia, the owners wanted to integrate design principles that they connected with into their new Los Angeles home. A completely new build, the residence was crafted on a virtually blank canvas. The owners were drawn to And And And Studio for their holistic approach to the entire design process, finding alignment with their vision. They wanted each element in the dwelling to not only capture what they admired in Puglia but also serve as an extension of their own personalities.

The open courtyard not only infuses light and air into adjacent zones but also establishes a visual connection throughout the abode. In Italy, the outdoor table serves various purposes, ranging from social gatherings to event preparation. The owners wanted the outdoor space to function as a central hub. Integrating the landscape into the heart of daily interactions was equally important and connects the home to the natural surrounds year-round.

Inside, the vaulted ceilings and exaggerated arched openings connect the internal spaces. The strategic use of height enhances natural illumination, and each function is oriented in response to internal needs. Extending over the courtyard is a roof structure that casts dynamic shadows, transforming the overall ambiance throughout the day. What truly defines the home is a deep appreciation for the landscape, allowing occupants to live openly within it. Acknowledging and seamlessly integrating reminders of the Los Angeles climate becomes a testament to permanence – a residence inspired by and responsive to its surroundings.

Spanning two floors, Beverlywood is a residence that speaks to its owners, infused with a touch of nostalgia. By drawing from a range of design principles, And And And Studio ensures that the resulting home has the potential to be timeless.
