In-House Expertise – The Floyd Collection by GlobeWest

With a focus on fluid curves, clean lines and luxury materials, the Floyd Collection is a labour of love crafted by GlobeWest. Created by the company’s in-house Melbourne-based design and product team, the furniture collection has been embraced by loyal trade customers across the country.

In 2022, the Floyd Collection began with the release of the Floyd Desk. With specified proportions, scale, function and a distinct sense of craftmanship, the desk became the design reference from which the entire range was created. Conceptually, the Floyd Collection emerges from trends in architecture, travel and art that have been interpreted by GlobeWest Head of Creative Keti Lytras. Tasked with driving the creative direction of GlobeWest and its collections, Keti presented a trend brief to her team of designers. Proposing clean profiles and curved forms, the Floyd Collection is inspired by the 2023 GlobeWest trend coined as ‘A Fresh Start’. The trend relates a feeling of connection to both nourishing surrounds and rest, thus suggesting the benefit of a calming materiality and tones. Alongside natural timber veneers and a contemporary colour palette, the Floyd Collection captures works of ‘soft brutalism’, wherein strong forms are balanced by rounded corners to establish a nurturing character.

The Floyd Collection is indebted to the GlobeWest product team, whose passion, expertise and collaborative approach informed the range. The design began in the hands of Product Designer Alè Anastasiou before being carefully reviewed by Senior Product Manager Chloe McBain. Prior to entering production, the collection also benefited from the insight of Amy Jansen, Head of Product, and Stephen Mendel, GlobeWest Co-Founder. With this considered and intentional design process, from prototyping through to refinement, the GlobeWest product team was united in its excitement for the collection. Building upon GlobeWest’s history, the range embodies the evolution of curves in contemporary interiors. The Floyd Collection is designed with curved elements made from natural timber veneer and showcases the complexity that can be achieved using such a versatile material. In addition, the Floyd Collection – which includes a console, buffet, entertainment unit, coffee and side tables, bench seat, bedside and dining table – is paired with luxurious marble and statement pedestal legs to create the sense of a warm embrace.

Where the Natural Ash and Brown Veined Marble offer a vintage inspired sensibility, the Black Marble and Matt Black Veneer has been especially well-received by creatives seeking a modern aesthetic complementing a moody interior. In its entirety, the collection has been praised for its versatility, the harmonious balance of contrasting shapes and materials, the different aesthetics enabled by the tones of its two very different colourways and its contemporary essence.
