Imbuing interiors with a sense of space and warmth, Australia’s first patented machine-washable rug, Double, has unveiled its latest offering – the Round collection. Establishing itself to be dynamic in its approach to design, functionality and aesthetics, the new Round collection reflects the brand’s equally innovative and playful approach to design.

Double prides itself on its functional design and are grounded in an ethos of ‘no worries’ living – the brand’s offerings are capable of withstanding spills and stains caused by life’s messy moments. Underpinning this is the rug’s two-part construction. The base layer is a 100 per cent sustainably sourced mat that is fabricated from thermoplastic rubber and recycled polyester. It grips the floor securely, protecting against slippage and preventing movement and wrinkling. Sitting atop is the surface layer, securely held in place but easily detached for laundering. The 100 per cent recycled polyester yarn used to craft this wear layer is highly durable, woven to withstand machine washing and low-heat tumble-drying whilst also being pleasing to the touch. At the same time, a focus on aesthetics remains, with a wide variety of styles that are relevant to a contemporary lifestyle.

The Round collection elevates the organic offerings of the versatile brand.

The Round collection elevates the organic offerings of the versatile brand. The new range of circular rugs features five different textures, from luxurious vegan shearling and highland pile to the coveted new jute and cotton pile. Moreover, they add a tangible sense of warmth and organic interest to a space and resonate within any interior. Presented in two dimensions, the 160-centimetre version is ideal for smaller areas or entryways, whilst the 200-centimetre size adds a bold feature to a large or open plan space.

Characterised by the power to optically expand smaller spaces, soften corners that may seem out of place and imbue organic warmth, the new collection is a versatile addition to Double’s current offering. Stylist Gemma Leslie, an artist and designer who collaborated with Double on showcasing the collection, reflects on how to work with round rugs and visually enhance spaces. “When we talk about any circular design objects at home, the top thing that comes to mind is softness. Their shape provides an undercurrent of warmth, opposing conventional square and rectangular rugs, anchoring even the simplest of living spaces,” Gemma notes. “The Round collection offers a new shape in design-led styles that are often hard to source, especially ones that fit modern interior aesthetics, as well as being life-proof, whether it be a home with kids, pets or just being entertainers.”

“I appreciate a round rug for the capability to create a sense of space. The absence of sharp corners creates a sense of flow and openness, which can be particularly useful in smaller spaces.”

When it comes to ways one can work with round rugs to visually enhance spaces, Gemma reflects, “home is a place that should be designed around ‘everyday life’.” She continues, “I appreciate a round rug for the capability to create a sense of space. The absence of sharp corners creates a sense of flow and openness, which can be particularly useful in smaller spaces.” When it comes to styling her own 1880s Victorian-style home, Gemma uses her rug in a way to emphasise the home’s period features. “The bay windows are such a focal point in the house and having a circular element helps break the monotony of rectangular furniture, creating a sense of comfort and feels so inviting to sit down and spend some time.”

With a practical and versatile collection of contemporary styles and textures, Double complements its range with machine-washable capabilities and considered new collections. As such, the Round collection offers a seamless injection of space, organic intrigue and softness into any space.
