Through honouring traditional, sustainable craft and highlighting artisan practices, En Gold succeeds in creating unique pieces that inspire. Harnessing the idea that furniture often forms the base for social interaction and connectedness, En Gold has created furniture that will sit timelessly and effortlessly in a space. Surpassing trends, these handcrafted objects are designed to become heirlooms to be cherished for a lifetime and then some.

En Gold reflects the concept that every piece of furniture in a home has a story within – that every item chosen has the potential for a lifetime of memories to be ingrained inside it. The En Gold offering is a celebration of artisanal craft. With every component made by hand, the collection becomes an exploration into the imperfections and qualities that make every element unique. Each piece reflects the presence of its maker, showing fingerprints and ensuring each object is distinct. The team behind En Gold, husband and wife Steffanie and Matt Ball, believe that this connection and relationship between the maker and the customer is essential. The duo aspires to honour both the traditional craft of their cultural heritage and the maker’s hands that have created the objects.

A focus on sculptural, organic materials has always been at the heart of En Gold’s designs – the result of a life-long fascination with rocks and geodes. This focus on the importance of materials allows the designs to transcend their initial purpose, and to begin blurring the lines between functional pieces of furniture and eye-catching works of art. However, these objects are designed with function and circular use also in mind. En Gold wants its creations to be used, refurbished and enjoyed time and time again, further cementing a dedication to sustainable design practices.

Alongside honouring her cultural roots, Steffanie is determined to continue promoting and celebrating authentic Filipino craft to a global audience. By showcasing and sharing the stories of the artisans behind the work, En Gold also shows the heart and soul of each individual piece. From the hand-quarried cultivation of materials to the carpentry and carving of the stone, each object reflects not only the artisan, but also the region in which it is crafted.

This desire to continue directly supporting the makers behind the work naturally progressed into the founding of the non-profit Hiraya Foundation. With the foundation, Steffanie and Matt have been able to continue their connection and passionate support of the regions in which En Gold pieces are crafted. They have done this through initiatives such as providing schools with reading materials and resources, barangays with clean drinking water and life insurance and health care support to sanitary services and workers.

With a focus on sustainable design practices, and in valuing the connection between customer and maker, En Gold has succeeded in providing pieces that exist as functional, unique and deeply meaningful additions to the home.
